Highlights of the Telling the Story report demonstrate the significant impacts mission-oriented banks have in their communities, including that 63.6 percent of lending occurred in distressed, low- and moderate-income communities. The Mission Intensity metric profiled in the report captures that overall, 73.2 percent of lending analyzed support banks’ community and economic development missions, with banks supporting minority-owned businesses, women-owned businesses, “green” projects, nonprofit organizations and more. Additionally, banks’ $1.5 billion in lending supported the creation of over 10,000 jobs in one year alone. The bank data analyzed represented just under 30 percent of the entire Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) banking industry and about 10 percent of the Minority Depository Institution (MDI) Industry.
