Telling the Story: The Impact of the Reporting Banks and the Mission-Oriented Banking Industry demonstrates the work of 24 mission-oriented banks and the industry overall with compelling data and informative narratives. The report includes figures on industry products and services, levels of lending to underserved communities, efforts on sustainability, among several notable features of these banks. Report is based on 2013 data.

Highlights of the Telling the Story report demonstrate the significant impacts mission-oriented banks have in their communities, including that 63.6 percent of lending occurred in distressed, low- and moderate-income communities. The Mission Intensity metric profiled in the report captures that overall, 73.2 percent of lending analyzed support banks’ community and economic development missions, with banks supporting minority-owned businesses, women-owned businesses, “green” projects, nonprofit organizations and more. Additionally, banks’ $1.5 billion in lending supported the creation of over 10,000 jobs in one year alone. The bank data analyzed represented just under 30 percent of the entire Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) banking industry and about 10 percent of the Minority Depository Institution (MDI) Industry.
