The Boys and Girls Club of Newark (BGCN) has been providing affordable after-school, weekend and summary programming to thousands of low-income children in Newark, NJ and surrounding communities since 1938. BGCN takes an integrated approach to youth development, offering services that nurture the whole child – emotionally, physically and socially, taking into account the full spectrum of a young person’s life.

The NMTC allocation has provided funding to complete renovations to the existing club house, adding needed space for programming and updating the facility. The project is adding two beneficial centers to the facility, expanding the offerings currently made available to BGCN’s members. First, a STEM Center will encourage girls and children from low‐income households to become engaged in the sciences and math, a pathway to jobs. Second, the Family Wellness Center will provide counseling services to children and their families, promoting overall wellness.

Carver Federal Savings Bank Carver Bank, a long-time NCIF partner, provided a loan and a line of credit to support the project.
